Swartz Campbell credits Jeff McCarron for its stature in professional liability litigation and recognition as a Tier 1 (highest) law firm for Defense Legal Malpractice Law by Best Law Firms[1] published by U.S.News & World Report. Swartz Campbell’s professional liability group was winner of The Legal Intelligencer’s 2017 Litigation Departments of the Year.
Decades of successful management of complex and high stakes litigation earned Jeff the respect of judges and lawyers as a top defense litigator. Lawyers in need of representation regularly selected Jeff as their lawyer. Jeff has dedicated his practice to the representation of professionals in litigation. He developed and manages a group focused on the handling of professional liability litigation and disciplinary proceedings. The matters involve representation of lawyers, accountants, appraisers, realtors, insurance agents and brokers, officers and directors, architects and engineers, securities dealers, and title insurance agents. Jeff has handled hundreds of trials, and he has lectured and written about professional liability issues, risk management for professionals and litigation techniques and practice. He is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In addition to his practice, Jeff is Chairman of Swartz Campbell’s Management Committee and chairs the firm’s Professional Liability Group.
Jeff is a clear standout among litigation defense lawyers. With all his trial and other court successes, it is no wonder Jeff received the Distinguished Defense Counsel award from the Pennsylvania Defense Institute. The award is to honor a member of the civil defense bar who exemplifies the qualities of professionalism, dedication to the practice of law and the promotion of the highest ideals of justice in the community. Best Lawyers[2] in America published by U.S.News & World Report recognized Jeff as “Lawyer of the Year” for Legal Malpractice Defense in Philadelphia for 2020, 2017 and 2013. “Lawyer of the Year” recognition is awarded to the lawyer with the highest overall peer-feedback for a specific Practice Area and geographic location. Only one lawyer is recognized as “Lawyer of the Year” for each specialty and location. SuperLawyers[3] described Jeff as “Top Rated Professional Liability Attorney in Philadelphia” and continuously listed Jeff in the top 100 lawyers in Pennsylvania and Philadelphia since 2006. Martindale-Hubbell has continuously reported Jeff as peer rated for highest level of professional excellence reflected by his AV rating as a preeminent lawyer. And Avvo rates Jeff 10 out of 10 (superb).
Jeff has credentials not shared by other professional liability lawyers. Jeff was the first lawyer in Pennsylvania to receive Board Certification as a
Professional Liability Attorney with special competence in legal professional liability litigation by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. Based on his trial advocacy and litigation experience, Jeff also received
Board Certification as a Civil Trial Advocate and for Civil Pretrial Practice by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, a Pennsylvania Supreme Court Approved Agency. Good standing, substantial involvement for the requisite period, proven experience, education, reviews by substantially involved peers and judges, and written examination to test proficiency, knowledge, and experience in civil trial law to justify the applicant’s representation of specialization to the public are
required to receive Board Certification.
Clients facing high stakes and highly publicized accusations have hired Jeff to represent them. Many of Jeff’s matters have received media attention. It was Jeff who won reversal of the $1,000,000 sanction against a medical malpractice defense lawyer. When Bill Cosby sued the lawyers of his accuser, Jeff represented them. He also represented the law firm sued by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
It was Jeff who
confronted the “kids for cash” judge about his relationship with opposing counsel and later helped uncover and prosecute the judge for corruption leading to his lengthy prison sentence. Jeff’s pursuit of justice to remedy the evil of corruption was frequently headline news.
Jeff is a former Co-Chair of the Professional Responsibility Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association, former Co-Vice Chair of the Professional Liability Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and past Chair of the Professional Liability Committee of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute. He received his law degree from Temple University School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Pretty good. We were well represented."
